Update 18 June 2010
Well, we made it to the top, and got down in one piece. We were very lucky with the weather - it didn't rain, and it wasn't too cold. Aches and pains for days afterwards, and we've suffered at least one quite bad back, but nothing really to worry about (Matt...!). Thanks to everyone who has contributed - we're very pleased to have exceeded target, and Gill would have been proud. A couple of photos as proof have been uploaded, and more available on various facebook pages, no doubt.
The TUI Snowdon conquerers....!
Gill Pease was a much loved member of TUI UK Financial Services team. She very sadly lost her battle with cancer last year, but will be remembered by many as the 'oracle' of foreign exchange from a career in which she built so many friendships. A fun and caring lady, Gill always enjoyed a 'glass of fizz' and most will have been to one of her legendary BBQs!
In memory of Gill, and to raise funds for cancer research, we have decided to climb Mount Snowdon (which at 3,560 feet is the highest point in England and Wales) on 11th June 2010.
The team going for the top are: Jeremy Osborne – younger than he looks, but the last time he did any exercise he was at school wearing his pants and vest Ian Bishop – He tells us he has been to the top of before, on the train! Richard Turner – We know he looks good for his age, but the man is 104 and age concern have refused point blank to insure him for the climb. Matt Bayliss – The Big man thinks he can do it, let’s hope he doesn’t need carrying down the Mountain, the bookies favourite to fall at the first hurdle. Liz Droznika – She is required to take drugs to help her get to the top, but she is determined to make it. Verity Mattocks – Verity doesn’t do shoes without a 4 inch heel, so this climb could be long and painful. Harriet Massetti and Carli Livings – The glamorous duo are prepared to make sacrifices for the trip, they are only taking one set of hair straightners between them!! Aimee Rowlands – The newest member of the team, Aimee has been hitting the gym 3 times a week in preparation, the only one likely to reach the top.Glynn Hughes (Boycie) – The boy has been training hard, sugar scrubs, face masks, chest waxing!!! Any photos and he will be straight to the front.
and lastly....
Louise Denny - ex-member of the Financial Services team, and close friend of Gill. She has climbed Snowdon before, but we're just hoping the years of hard-drinking haven't affected her stamina too much.
As you can see its not going to be easy for this motley crew, so please dig deep and give what you can to this very worthwhile charity.
