We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Teenage Cancer Trust is running a £1million fundraising appeal to provide unique and much needed services and units for young people with cancer across the South West. Working with University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, Teenage Cancer Trust will fund services designed to provide young cancer patients with an environment where they can meet others in a similar situation, and have as normal a life as possible. In Bristol, there are plans for a dedicated in-patient unit, a day-care area, off-site accommodation including a drop-in centre, and access to specialist support. Funding will be available for designated hospitals in the region to enhance facilities for patients being treated locally.

The Runners (South West Yakkers!) -  this small, select group grew from Sue telling Deirdre and Eddie that she hoped to run the Bristol 10k to raise funds for TCT.  None of them is an experienced runner, but they are all very enthusiastic about the run and the cause, and are enjoying the challenge of getting fit!

Deirdre McGuigan( Brunton) - "I am the Teenagers and Young Adults with Cancer, Lead Nurse at Bristol. I am dedicated to helping develop the services for 15-25 yr olds diagnosed with cancer in Bristol and across the Southwest. It is a huge undertaking for all involved and will require the support and resources made available from all aspects of the NHS, including charitable organisations such as Teenage Cancer Trust.  Everything given, no matter how small, will make a difference to the care and services provided for the young people affected by cancer in the South West. Thank you for your help."

Sue Ahlquist   - "I will be running in memory of my brave and beautiful daughter, Rachel; she heard about TCT units when she was being treated for cancer, and thought they sounded amazing.  I started running after Rachel died to help myself cope, and am now a committed, volunteer member of the Steering Group for this project.  I know how hard it is for young cancer patients, and want to do this run to help improve facilities for them. Thank you for supporting us."

Jenny Ahlquist - "I am running to support my mummy, although I fear she might leave me behind!  I think it's great that Mum is involved in this project, and my sister would be very proud of her. Please sponsor us in memory of my sister and to help make the TCT funded facilities in the South West a reality."

Eddie Rigby -" I'm doing this race because I want to support my longstanding friend of 40 years, Sue, in her goal to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.  I am also doing it as a personal challenge."

Lorraine Jones – " I had the privilege of attending the TYAC conference 2009 on behalf of my client ISEEU Global and what resonated the most from what I heard was that young teenage adults with cancer just want to obtain some ‘normality’ in their lives. Hmm, it’s really not a lot to ask is it?  TCT units are supporting their needs and helping them to achieve this; in a world which often focuses on being different, ‘normal’ is a refreshing champion and that’s the reason I want to run."
