BDW Yorkshire East raising awareness for Sepsis · 14 February 2019

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis. It raises awareness, and sparks the question: “What is sepsis? I’ve never heard of it!” In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths. It also funds our vital support work, helping people adjust to life after sepsis.

Last year we prematurely and suddenly lost our friend and MD Paul Newman to Sepsis. To honour and remember him this year we have chosen to support The Sepsis Trust UK, and whilst raising funds we hope to improve awareness of this condition.

Sepsis accounts for 52,000 deaths annually in the UK which shockingly is more than breast cancer, bowel cancer and prostate cancer all put together! It is an acute bodily reaction to infection and its symptoms initially present as flu like but if undiagnosed can rapidly progress to a life threatening condition.

As Sepsis is now very close to our hearts we hope this year to beat all previous years fundraising to support The Sepsis Trust UK in honour of Paul.
