There 253 million people in the world who are blind or visually impaired, 75% have conditions that are preventable or treatable. We screen for and treat eye conditions, raise awareness about eye health, and train and mentor local eye care teams

Story

Hey guys,

Please take 5 minutes out of your day to read the following: we would really appreciate it and it means a lot to us.

After fours years of talking about it, we've bitten the bullet and entered the 2010 Mongol Rally.

What is it, we hear you cry with barely-containable anguish. Well, simply put, on 24th July this year We are going to get in a car and drive it 10,500 miles across freezing steppes, scorching desert and AK-47 wielding petty bureaucrats to UlaanBaatar, the capital of Mongolia, all in the name of some really worthwhile charities. But it gets harder- these are the rules:

NO SET ROUTE

NO SUPPORT TEAM

LESS THAN A 1 LITRE ENGINE

RAISE £1000 FOR THE RALLY CHARITIES

OH, AND DO IT IN A MONTH

The rally charity we've chosen is Mercy Corps, an international aid organisation that specialises in disaster relief and helping the most vulnerable people in the world. If you wish to donate to the Mercy corps, please follow this link: www.justgiving.com/james-and-rory

BUT we don't want it to be that easy. We are also hoping to raise an additional £1500 for Orbis, the Flying Eye Hospital. In a nutshell, this is a DC-10 plane kitted out to be, well, a flying eye hospital. It flies to Asia, South America, the Middle East and Africa and restores sight to children and adults who have lost it, transforming lives wherever it lands.

WHERE YOU COME IN

We realise that times are tough and things may well be tighter than they were a year ago. But in times like these, no-one suffers more than Charities and the people they support.

We would massively appreciate any amount you could spare, it really would mean a lot to us and even more to the children and adults you will be helping.

Please do donate, and remember to check for updates to our preparations and journey on http://www.theadventurists.com/ulaan-banter
