Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in people’s homes and our hospices offer specialist care. We also support people emotionally, provide practical information, and match them with trained volunteers.

Story

Spike Bainbridge, Matt Jones and Andy Dennis would like to thank you for taking the time to visit the "The Victoria Arms Velos" JustGiving page.

I guess that being the fool that first suggested this was a good idea, I (Spike) kind of drove the selection of the charity.

When my mother was unfortunately suffering with cancer a couple of years ago, Marie Curie nurses were there to support all of us and to make the time as bearable as possible.

Unfortunately cancer will affect almost all of us at some point in our lives, and I would like to think that Marie Curie will always be there. For that to be a reality, they need to raise £10 000 each and every hour.

That sort of covers the why we’re doing this for Marie Curie but, how did we come to be cycling across Northern Europe?

As many of you will know, I was a little bit poorly myself a few years ago. As a result I lost a ridiculous amount of weight but with it some mobility and core strength as well. Good ole Doc Roberts said that, provided I took it gently, cycling would be good to help build my stomach muscles back up. So following a few of my usual rash statements, taking it gently now involves riding from Mönchengladbach back to Ascot.

Thanks to a few local businesses including The Victoria Arms in Binfield, Warfield MOT & Service Centre, MAR Services, Downs Carpets Ltd, Eurodec, In Touch Accounting, Moulded Cords & Cables Ltd, Source Supplies, Keith Gibbs and the Daruchini restaurant we now have no option but to go through with this. So on Monday 24th June2013, we start out on what will be 300+ miles, across 5 countries, in 4 days.

We’d love you to feel part of this with us so, please dig deep into your pockets and help us to help Marie Curie to be able to continue their invaluable work.

Thanks in advance, and don’t forget to tick the “Gift Aid” box.
