Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is George, he was just 4 years old - looking forward to starting school until it all changed when in June this year after several weeks of being poorly he was sadly diagnosed with Leukaemia.

He has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL)- a form of cancer that affects the Lymphocyte producing cells in the bone marrow.

He is going through intensive chemo at the moment, this is part of a 3 year programme which means he has lost his hair, has reduced compromised immunity and gets very tired. He also takes high dose steriods which can lead to increased appetite and mood swings.

Despite everything he is going through he is always smiling and a joy to be round. It is a great priviledge and honour to ' run for George ' and help such a deserving charity.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. So please dig deep and donate now. If you would like to find out how my training is going please continue to read.

I first found out I had a place in the London Marathon on the 11th November, I was on a reserve list so was basically waiting for someone to pull out. I was absolutely over the moon and in complete shock- phoned lots of friends telling them my news- most thought I was bonkers! But I can honestly say it has been a life long ambition and having completed my family of 3 children now have the time to dedicate to fund raise for George, a fantastic charity and put in all those hours of endless running.

At present I am running 5 nights a week and last Friday November 26th I ran 9 miles- the furthest in 4 years. I would like to complete it in less than 5 hours but my main aim is to enjoy it as I might  never want or never get a place again!

On Friday Dec 4th I completed 12 miles, it hurt a bit but I managed it after a full day having eleven 3 years olds and four 1 year olds round for a party! Then I found out the day after it was only 11 miles- am a bit gutted!

The reality of running 26.2 miles is starting to set in and quite frankly terrifies me but I know I have the guts and determination to complete this even if I have to crawl to the end!

On Saturday morning 12th Dec I completed 12.25 miles which really hurt- felt very light headed at the end- think I was a bit dehydrated, had a week of running in the rain and was getting a bit fed up. Decided may drop to training 4 times a week as very tired, muscles hurt and getting behind on everything else.

I now realise I have always been a dry weather runner, I do not think I have ever run in the rain so much!!! sometimes it is soo..... cold, the wind is blowing a gale- people must think I am mad!

Muscles really hurt when running- feeling very frustrated at the moment. I ended up taking 10 days off training through muscle pain, a chesty cough and then the snow, but managed to get out Christmas morning for a quick burst to see how it felt- really good but it was very icey and had to run on the road. Within 10 days I was up to 9 miles which was ok, then the really cold weather came back, after my last run in -1 degrees and to be honest pretty hideous, the snow set in, it did not look like and still does not look like its going anywhere, I had a chat with a friend who knew about me running the marathon and she has very kindly lent me her running machine which we collected today. This enables me to keep up the miles in this dreadful weather and is going to help me considerably, so a big thanks to Helen.

I have 12 miles to do this weekend. w/e 8/1/10. I completed my 12 miles which felt a lot better than a month ago so perhaps this quieter schedule is benefitting me, although I now have some rather large blisters on my feet.

A week later and attempted a 14 miler- it was 7am and very cold, felt ok for about 12 miles then just ran out of energy- I had no strength left to run and ended up walk/run the last couple of miles- very disapointed- when is this going to get easier? I got home and ended up in bed trying to warm up.

Its now Feb and have now completed 14 miles and ran all the way although it did hurt and legs were very heavy. Have just got back from a 6 miler 8/2/10 which feels like a breeze, it snowed all the way but luckily did not settle. 16 miles Wednesday night- not looking forward to it.

I have it easy really poor George is about to go through his second lot of intensive chemo- lets hope it goes as well as it can do. Waitrose in Woodley, Reading have a token box at the moment for Leukaemia Care- money raised will come off my sponsorship- it looks pretty good so far. Raised £528. The Three Tuns Fire Station are holding a car wash and splitting the proceeds with me for Leukaemia on Saturday 17th April- any help would be great.

The 16.4 miler went remarkably well, we ran through a snow blizzard and felt if we could do that we could run through anything! Then disaster a few days later I twisted my knee and it has prevented me going out to complete long runs, I am now trying to maintain my fitness by cycling and swimming- very frustrating- Reading half is only 4 weeks away- wish me luck! It's Thursday 24th Feb- still a sore knee and feling very sorry for myself, cannot run at all at mo.

After seeing an amazing Physio, who strapped up my knee and warned it would hurt, I am now out running again, I am back up to 17 miles with Reading half this weekend, the knee pain has been quite bad after the 17 miles but am hopeful I can still make Sunday! Reading half was hard work, I found the heat really difficult as I am so used to running when the kids are in bed but I finished and learnt from it.

We are now 2 weeks away from London- I have done all my long runs- furthest being 21 miles last weekend which went well, right leg has been aching down the shin and left knee now hurts- back to the pysio tomorrow!

I DID IT - I RAN THE LONDON MARATHON. It was a great experience, truely amazing, that does not mean it did not hurt! I completed in 4hr 59 mins 34 secs if it had not been for a gentlemen called Robert it may have taken a lot longer- he was a stranger at the start and we stuck together the whole way which certainly made it easier for me. I hit the wall at 23/24 and found it difficult to keep going but I really gave it my all and with Roberts help, ran all the way and was delighted to finish in less than 5hrs. The sore shins and knees did not really hold me back but blimey my blisters hurt and my legs were a dead weight, I have chaffing in places I did not expect, today now 3 days on, stairs are a little easier but I cannot st down for too long or it's difficult to get up!

Thank you all for all your support, I was inundated by texts, phone calls, cards and emails wishing me luck, I am lucky to have such great friends.
