On the 16th July we received the unwanted news that my brother Johnston had been killed in Iraq.
He was serving with the Brigade Surveillance Company of the 1st Battalion The Devon and Dorset Regiment. At the time of his death he was commanding an inner cordon of a major strike operation to apprehend key terrorist involved in killing many Iraqi civilians and both American and British soldiers. "It is abundantly clear that John was doing his job superbly. He was leading from the front and putting the success of the mission and the safety of his men before his own, just as we would expect from such a loved and respected soldier" Lt Col Toffer Beatie. My brother has been quoted as saying at the beginning of the tour "as long as my friends go home safely and my team goes home safely my job is done" my brother done that job but in doing so paid the ultimate sacrifice for this country.
As well as being a great soldier, Johnston was completely dedicated to his family. His love for us all came through in everything he done.
We as a family are immensely proud of Johnston, he was an amazing man whom we are better people for just being a part of his life. In celebration of Johnstons life and in his memory myself and my cousin Angela are jumping out of an aeroplane around the 1st anniversary of his death! We new that we would have to do something big to match the size of his heart and personality and what bigger than jumping 13000FT? Please show your support for us by sponsoring us and help raise money for our many soldiers, old and still serving who are now in need more than ever.
