Our belief in health as a basic human right drives everything we do. That’s why we work with remote and marginalised communities to find sustainable solutions. We are African-led and therefore our understanding of the communities we work with, and the health challenges they face, is unparalleled.

Story

Hi,

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I'm very proud to be running the London marathon for AMREF – it’s my first one.. so needless to say I’m really nervous!

I’ve been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time in Africa in the last few years and have had had first hand experience on how we can make a difference.

AMREF is the largest African health organization in the world, providing health care and training across the continent. Its mission is to improve people’s health as a means for them to escape poverty.

You and I, we don’t in general die of our corruption, or our AIDS or Malaria or other illnesses, or our trade rules, or starvation, or our political instability, or our debt burdens, or our summer droughts. The poor do. They die from all of the above, both ours and their own.

So, please dig deep in your pockets and help me make a difference.

Here's how your donation will help:

·        £1000 could cover the cost of building materials with the labour provided by the community for one major new well for a community of 500 people.

·         £750 could pay for a team of urban specialist doctors to fly to a remote hospital in East Africa . During the visit they will treat over 40 patients and undertake at least 10 complicated operations as they train the local health workers and doctors to undertake some of these tasks in the future.

·         £300 could pay for the first ever toilet/washroom block in Kibera- a   Nairobi slum.

·         £100 could pay for drip irrigation for two family's fields in a drought prone area.

·         £75 could help rehabilitate one local village well.

·         £60 could provide an AIDS orphan's guardian with a loan to help start a family business.

·         £50 Could pay for anti malaria bed nets for 12 families.

·         £25 Could vaccinate 40 children against polio.

·         £15  Could fund an AMREF water stall to supply clean drinking water to 600 people.

·         £ 5 Could treat a patient with life threatening malaria.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: African Medical and Research Foundation, will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please join me in making a difference – to learn more about AMREF, please visit: www.amref.org

Thank you
