Story
Cancer is a devastating blow for any person to hear. It always was that people were shocked that someone had cancer but now people sigh and say ‘another one, so many people I know’ and shake their heads in sadness. When I was child I don’t remember any of my friends parents or siblings having cancer. Sadly for my children the same can’t be said. They know so many people who have had/have cancer. In 2013 this seems so tragic. Why is there not a cure? why can it not be stopped? The simple answer I guess is money, funding and research. It isn’t that government that will help find a cure. Sadly oil seems to hold more interest to them. It will be the people who hold the cake sales, the people who shake the collection tins, hold the quiz nights and those people who sponsor and donate.
Cancer has reached out its steely fingers in my family. It picked me up and tried to install its fear in to me, my Father, my nephew. It has tried to grasp us and make us afraid. Cancer doesn’t make people weak. It makes them strong. It makes them stand up and say ‘NO’. So on the night of the 28 September I shall be walking 26.2miles through the night, around London, to raise money for Cancer Research. Shine is a walking marathon to raise money for all types of cancer. I asked some friends if they would accompany me in walking this marathon to raise money for cancer and there is now over 60 of us that will be joining many others to SHINE all over London. Will it rain…most probably. Will it be cold……most certainly. Will everyone be united in beating cancer…..abso-flipping-lutley.
Most of you who know me will most defiantly know others doing this walk also so please don’t feel obliged to sponsor me if you have sponsored them. If you would like to donate every penny counts, no donation is too small. Imagine if one of your pounds made the difference and found that cure. How fabulous that would be. I can then grow to be an old lady rocking in my rocking chair (next to my Andy…who will be even older) holding his hand and thinking I have beaten cancer well and truly xx
Thank you for visiting my Shine fundraising page in support of Cancer Research UK. Please dig deep and sponsor me – it’s quick, easy and totally secure.
If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box when donating as this will increase your donation by at least 25% at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
Let’s beat cancer sooner.
