Story

Update:

Thank you to all that attended our Fundraising Day on Saturday 28th September in memory of our colleague Norman.  The weather stayed dry and we had a brilliant day, lots of fun and plenty of laughs.

Our target cumulative step count for the day was 400,000, despite a few last minute drop outs, we actually managed to achieve 553,970 steps, so in our view, smashed the target.

Our thanks go out to the following people:

  • All our staff and their families who made the effort to drive to Derwentwater, despite not knowing the weather forecast!
  • All the staff at Theatre by the Lake who were very accommodating and provided us with a lovely buffet lunch.
  • All the staff at the Derwentwater Hotel, again very accommodating, great venue and lovely friendly staff.
  • Huge thank you to Sarah and her colleagues at Plattyplus Events.  Your staff and their sense of humour really made for an enjoyable day during the dragon boat racing.  We will definitely use you again!
  • To all Norman’s family who turned up on the day in support of us all and joined in the walk and the games in memory of their beloved, Husband, Dad, Brother, Son and the many other banners that Norman fell under as a lovely genuine guy.
  • To all you that have already sponsored us in support of Springhill Hospice.  Much appreciated.

Finally it isn’t too late if you haven’t had the chance yet to sponsor us, please do so, for a great and worthy cause.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Walker Sime are planning a family fundraiser day on Saturday 28th September 2019.  The day will take place around Derwentwater, Lake District and will consist of a sponsored family walk, viking long boat racing and plenty of fun activities and games!  We have decided to incorporate the walk as a cumulative step challenge in the hope that we achieve 400,000 steps during the course of the day.

The idea for sponsorship is to try and raise money for Springhill Hospice in memory of our colleague, Norman Christie.  Norman recently passed away peacefully after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April of this year.  He spent his last few days in Springhill Hospice which is a 16 bedded purpose-built facility offering specialist palliative care to patients and their families.  It is a lovely place, home from home, and is a very worthy cause for raising money.  Norman's family, his wife Emma and children Sam and Ellie, will be joining us for the days activities in support of the cause in memory of their beloved husband, father and family relative.

Walker Sime would like to kick off the fundraising with £250 with the commitment that we will match fund to £1,000 if we can raise this much.  So we ask you all to dig deep and spread the word to raise as much money as possible on behalf of Springhill Hospice.
