Story
MONEY IS STILL COMING IN AND THIS PAGE HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL 30TH OCTOBER, SO PLEASE DON'T BE SHY AND KEEP GIVING! WITH THANKS. ROBERT
I am delighted to confirm that yesterday, 7th September, at 3.50 p.m. , I arrived at the Thames Barrier in London. My walk along the whole of the Thames Path from its source at Thames Head exceeded 200 miles and took 14 days. I would like to thank all those who helped and encouraged me on the way. More details about the whole of the walk can be found on the link below.

While my original fundraising target has been exceeded by a very wide margin, I would urge all those logging on to this page to continue to sponsor me and if you have a friend or relative, why don't you let them have details of the blog site above and get them to donate another £10. I would very much like to achieve £5000 and we are not far off that now!
Please keep the cash coming. Marie Curie Cancer Care provide their services totally free of charge. They need the generosity of people like yourselves to continue their work. Many thanks for your support.
WILLIAM GOMEZ - IN MEMORIAM
In the year 2000 my brother William died from cancer. He was 61. He was a child prodigy, learning the classical guitar from a very early age, playing in his first public concert at the age of 12. In the 1960's he was acknowledged to be among the top five classical guitarrists in the world. After touring extensively world wide for a number of years, he elected to return to Gibraltar and spend the rest of his life there. He was passionate about music and made it his life's ambition to engender a love of music among young people. On 31st December 1990 he was awarded an MBE for his services to music and the community.
THE CHALLENGE
I am aiming to walk the length of the River Thames from its source at Thames Head to the Thames Barrier in London, some 213 miles, over a period of two weeks. It will mean walking around 15 miles a day - not quite a Royal marines "Yomp" but quite tough enough for me! I am 62. All funds raised in the UK will go to support Marie Curie Cancer Care.
I intend to start on Saturday 25th August and hope to finish, all being well, on 7th September, my brother William's birthday. Contact me at look4gomez@gmail.com if you would like to join me on the walk, even for a very short while!
GIBRALTAR
Friends from Gibraltar may like to know that fundraising for the "Walking the Thames Path for William" is taking place in Gibraltar as well. The target in Gib is £10,000 and proceeds there will go towards a local charity "RICC" - Research into Childhood Cancer - (Gibraltar registered charity No.49), which was set up in 1989 following the death of a young friend, Philip Sacarello, aged 9, whose birthday was coincidentally also the 7th of September. All funds received by RICC go to fund research into Neuroblastoma. The research team works out of Gt. Ormond Street Hospital in London and over the years has made great advances towards developing a vaccine to cure those suffering from this disease.
Donations to RICC may be made by cheque payable to RICC and forwarded to 325 Main Street Gibraltar or by payment direct to NatWest Bank, Line Wall Road, Gibraltar, in favour of R.I.C.C. (Research into Childhood Cancer) a/c No. 36256595.
Wish me luck!
Robert
