Loving, fit and dynamic. That was my husband Steve (53) before he was struck down two years ago with Motor Neurone Disease. Now he's unable to speak and express his love, he's unable to walk so sits in a wheelchair all day long and he relies on 24/7 care because he's too weak to do anything for himself, literally anything, apart from think as the brain remains active. This really is a cruel disease. It's very painful to see him in this condition, that said, he remains unbelievably strong which makes me so proud.
We need to raise awareness of this dreadful disease so two very dear friends Dill and Sue (from antenatal days 25 years ago!) and I are going to walk the coastal path of the Isle of Wight in May, approximately 70 miles. This is a very fitting tribute as it was Steve who introduced the three of us and many other people to this beautiful walk (we have only done 25 miles before!). We are going to have fun, but also we are going to spread the word in the hope that funds raised will enable researchers to find the badly needed cure.
We'd be very grateful if you are able to support our challenge.
Many, many thanks
Debbie xx
