Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our fundraising page.

In October 2011 my friend Tim Di Meo and I attempted to trek the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal in memory of our friend Wayne Moores and in support of Water Aid.

Wayne was much loved, a skilled blacksmith and motorcycle enthusiast, a unique character and a free spirit, but above all, a good friend.

He has been sorely missed by those that knew him since he was killed in a motorcycle accident involving a drunk driver in September 2010.

In his memory we attempted the challenge of completing the Annapurna Circuit. A gruelling 21 day trek spanning 248km (155 miles) of mountain trails, high altitude desert and beneath the shadow of immense Himalayan peaks and through the deepest canyon in the World.

We did not complete the circuit as we had to turn back when Tim started experiencing breathing dificulty at 5200m altitiude, after seeking medical advice we resolved not to risk the further climb over the Thorung La Pass at 5350 meters (17,550ft & nearly four times the height of Ben Nevis) as at these heights 100m can be the difference between life and death.

We did, however, trek the same distance as the full circuit by walking halfway then back, and importantly for us we reached Tilicho Tal (lake) at 5200m, one of the highest lakes in the world and the location of the photo we have used for this page (top left, Wayne triumphantly conquering the sign).

It was epic to achieve even half of what Wayne did, and an amazing to follow in his footsteps through this culturally diverse and unimaginably beautiful part of the world.

With this trek we are raising money for Water Aid. WaterAid is an international non governmental organisation whose mission is to transform lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world's poorest communities. Because their projects use technologies that are appropriate and affordable for people living in some of the world's poorest countries a small amount really can make a difference to their work. For example, just £15 is enough to help one person gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

So please help us support our cause in Wayne's memory by contributing whatever you can through this website, knowing that a little goes a long way in poorer countries and just a few pounds can save lives.
