Once upon a time 3 women, who lived near Bristol, had too much to drink at a dinner party, and thought it would be a good idea to leave behind their careers and household duties, of cooking, cleaning, and taxiing around their hundreds of small children, and climb the 3 highest mountains in Britain in 24 hours.
In the morning it did not seem quite such a sensible idea, but before they could stop her Nicki suggested that they walk for Bob & Megs Wilson's Willow Foundation, which they set up following the sad loss of their daughter Anna, and in memory of the positive significance of special days out during her prolonged illness. Through their fund raising the Willow foundation has been able to provide hundreds of special days for men and women; a welcome respite from their treatment and lasting memories for their families; a moment of normality in lives dominated by their condition.
Before they knew it, 14 more women had decided to join them, to walk in memory of family and friends, and then there was no going back. Besides, surely this could not be too much of a challenge, given our normal, day to day, working-super-mum schedules!
So on the 13th June 2008 we will pack our inner socks and our outer socks, our head torches and our walking poles, and set off more or less physically prepared, but all determined and committed. Please help us to help the Willow Foundation provide more special memories. X
