WolfeCake's 24-Hour Charity Gaming Livestream · 20 December 2014

We’re Mind, the mental health charity, working across England & Wales. We believe no one should face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. We’ll listen, give support & advice, & fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Story

Hey, everyone! My name is Sarah Pollitt, but I am also known as WolfeCake on YouTube (well, to 71 people on YT and 44 people on Twitch, I am known as WolfeCake!). You can call me Wolfy or Sarah. I don't mind!! Now, I'm going to be doing a 24 hour charity livestream on Twitch.tv, which will be from midnight to midnight! As of right now (18/10/2014), I haven't decided on what games to play yet. Suggestions are welcome!!

So the reason I'm doing this is because I am a sufferer of severe depression and have been for a large part of my teenage years, which has driven me to the point where I have actually attempted to take my own life a few times. I have been to the lowest point I could possibly be and I have been to the point where I'd actually stayed up at night fearful and whimpering that I won't control my actions and subsequently take my own life. I still have depression and I do still have my low points, however I am slowly recovering from it, in the best way one can do so, and I am getting happier with my life. With friends, family, hobbies, studies etc. So throughout my low points, I have often gotten the typical lines from people

- "It's just a phase"

- "You're just sad right now"

- "Get over it!"

You've probably heard the usual script over and over again, and it's sad because depression is a disease that can kill.

In accordance with World Health Organization (WHO), DEPRESSION is all set to become the second most fatal disease by 2020 with only coronary heart problems preceding it.

If you would like to understand the science of depression, ASAPScience on YouTube created a really good video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOK1tKFFIQI

The reason why it's in December is because of the large amount of university papers I have to write and books I have to read, so I wouldn't be able to commit to a 24 hour livestream
