About the Women of Scotland Lunch

The Women of Scotland Lunch is an annual lunch set up to celebrate the great achievements of women in Scotland and in 2015 the lunch will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel Argyle Street Glasgow on Friday 24 April 2015.

Please save the date now but we are already booking tables for our corporate guests who would like to plan ahead. Please contact us by email wosl@gmail.com to find out more.

The Lunch was founded by May Hamp-Hamilton in 1958 and was designed to draw together a cross section of influential women in Scotland to celebrate their success in many and varied endeavours.

Well-known journalist and former BBC news and Children in Need presenter, Viv Lumsden, is Honorary Chair of the event.

About Kidney Research UK

The proceeds of the 2015 lunch will be donated to Kidney Research UK. Since 1985, Kidney Research UK have invested nearly £8.7M into renal research, in centres of excellence across Scotland. More than 80 research grants have been awarded to teams in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Some awards support and develop young researchers to specialise in kidney research, whilst others fund eminent experts to progress their vital renal research projects.

The Scottish research you will be funding will include projects like Dr Paddy Mark work at the University of Glasgow. Patients with kidney failure requiring dialysis treatment have a very high risk of heart disease. Dr Mark has developed a new cardiac magnetic resonance imaging method. This uses a highly innovative non-contrast technique which will be less harmful to patients and will provide a better imaging strength, and it is expected that this MRI method will help to identify high risk patients. This is a world first, and will be a pilot study on dialysis patients over a two year period.
