Where?
Great Manchester Run
Why?
Adam and Sarah have lost three close friends and colleagues to cancer in the past 12 months. In memory and tribute to them and the other members of family, friends and work colleagues whose life has been affected by cancer, we with our brother (in-law) and running partner Dan for the 2009 run have decided to raise money for The Christie in this year's Great Manchester Run 10K
The Christie Charity (www.christies.org) raises money to fund projects at The Christie which are outside the scope of the NHS.
The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 40,000 patients a year.
Based in Manchester it serves a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist, around 15% of patients are referred from other parts of the country.
It provides radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services.
The Christie is also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. They run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on The Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
Last year they raised nearly £12 million which funded a whole range of things, including a new radiopharmacy, to communications skills for nursing staff, a new state-of-the-art surgical robot, groundbreaking cancer research and their wig service (to name but a few). They could not do this without the fantastic support of people across the North West and around the UK
You can donate as little as £2 to the justgiving website shown below and remember if you are a UK tax payer please let the charity claim Gift Aid on your donation
Thank you for helping to improve cancer treatment and make cancer a thing of the past.
