World Vision believes that by working together with children, their communities, and our supporters and partners, the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children can be transformed. As a Christian organisation, we aspire to reflect God’s unconditional love in all we do.

Story

Hey guys,

Many of you would have heard of the 40 Hour Famine organized by World Vision, and this year I've decided to be part of this fund-raising event. Just a couple of quick facts below.

The Global Food Crisis is into its second year, and most people don't even know about it.

Do you know that:

1. Currently there are children and families in 33 countries around the world who are suffering from the effects of the Global Food Crisis.

2. Malnourished children are more likely to die from ordinary illnesses like diarrhoea, malaria, tuberculosis and respiratory disease.

3. There are now over 900 million chronically hungry people around the world, and approximately 1.4 billion living in extreme poverty.

4. In fact, every day an estimated 25,000 children die from hunger and preventable diseases.

That means that every 3.4 seconds you spend living your good life wherever you are, a child dies from starvation / preventable diseases.

What can you do to help? My target is to raise 400 pounds (the default currency for this website), and it'll be in stages, within the next 10 days, as the 40 Hour Famine starts on the 28-30 August 2009 over here for my university.

I'll vow to sacrifice on the:

Very first donation - No food for 40 hours
First 100 pounds - No food for 40 hours + No technology (eg. internet, handphone, etc.)
First 200 pounds - No food for 40 hours + No technology + No talking
First 300 pounds - No food for 40 hours + No technology + No sight (blindfolded)
400 pounds target and beyond - No food for 40 hours + No technology + No sight + No speech

For those who like to see Sung being tortured, this is a great opportunity to do so, also for a good cause.

Count your blessings and dig deep.
