Abseil for Grove Cottage · 2 May 2015

Grove Cottage provides social and educational activities for people of all ages with learning disabilities and complex additional needs; to help them develop their potential, avoid social isolation by supporting lifelong friendships, and to provide respite for their families.

Story

Grove Cottage members, staff and volunteers have been offered an opportunity to challenge themselves by abseiling off a local water tower.

As a Youth Club we have got a team together!! We have got individual's looking for a personal challenge of abseiling as well one fearless youth club member who want's to show us how it's done! Ultimately we aim to have a laugh, do something out of our comfort zone and raise lots of money for Grove Cottage.

Heres a bit about our participants (victims):

James Catton, volunteer for just under a year James is a six form student and says... I like to challenge myself and it is for a really worthwhile cause.
Yolanda Wintle, volunteer and our youngest abseiler Yolanda says...I love every second I spend at Grove cottage, it is a fabulous place that makes such a difference to so many people's lives!
Nadia Howard, our newest youth club staff member Nadia was one of the first person to say 'lets do this' and encouraged others to get involved!! Nadia says...I've seen first hand the incredible impact Grove cottage has and am taking the challenge to try and raise money for such an amazing cause!

Chloe Donovan, college student, Grove Cottage member and sister of Sian Chloe's fearless approach to these kinds of challenges and Chloe's mum says... Chloe just loves the 'fear factor' and its a great opportunity to raise funds with a difference !

Sian Donovan, volunteer, Student Nurse and sister of Chloe, Sian loves a challenge and says...Grove cottage has made a huge difference to my whole family's lives. I could not think of a better cause to raise money for and conquer my fears at the same time!
Kirsty Thomas our Youth Club Leader says she won't have any nail's left by the day of the abseil in May and says I am doing it as I am so inspired by the others doing it plus Grove can only run with the support of it's community.
Emma Grixti, preforming arts leader and Get Active staff member Emma loves a challenge :)

Mary O'Driscoll says I've only been a Grove for a term and I have already fallen in love with in! It's just an amazing thing to be a part of and it's making such a difference so it needs financial support! Also... I'm scared of heights!

To make it a bit silly our youth members suggested we do the abseil in fancy dress! So we are promising to get creative and abseil as Grove Cottage SuperHeros!!
