Story
Why?
This is often the first question people ask? It is a very valid point? Why, when neither of you have ever actually canoed before are you trying to partake in the longest canoe race in the world? In truth there are two reasons. Firstly challenges give focus and meaning to get fit and healthy and secondly they allow this energy to be channelled into raising money for great causes.
About the Charity
We have decided to raise money for CRY in memory of Simon McNamara, a friend who tragically died in 2008, aged 25 from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.
Simon was not a unique case. Hundreds of young people die unexpectedly of heart defects every year. CRY works to raise awareness of Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) and campaigns for proactive screening of young people. It offers help and support to those who have suffered a loss, provides medical information, carries out Mobile Cardiac Screening and ECG Testing Programmes within local communities and contributes to medical research.
