Cyclesense Tadcaster Triathlon · 6 May 2013

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

On the 6th of May 2013 I am participating in the Cyclesense Tadcaster Sprint Traithlon. This consists of a 500m swim, followed by a 14km cycle and then finishes with a 7km run. Those of you who know me well will know that I don't have much aptitiude for any of these sports - I hate running...I ended up in hospital having stitches in my face the first time I rode a bike (and still have the scar to prove it)...and unfortunately I sink rather faster than I can swim! However, despite the overwhelming evidence which suggests that this is a very bad idea I am determined to complete this task!

I am fundraising for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. They are the UK's leading MS charity and despite taking part in this triathlon for the charity as a whole, I will be pushing myself to do this for my cousin, Jessica. Unfortunately Jessica has been affected by the more aggressive (and rarer) type of MS and is now bed-bound and requires around the clock care. Tragically this type of progressive MS is particularly hard to control and it is incredibly difficult to slow down the progression of the disease.

A few of you have asked why I am not doing this event for a diabetic charity. The reason I feel so passionately about doing this for the Multiple Sclerosis Society is because it is a disease over which you have little to no control. Diabetes is a manageable condition (although ironically not so much when doing an endurance event!) and this is why I feel that Jessica and the Multiple Sclerosis charity are a far more worthy cause.

So please donate however much you can, any amount would be hugely appreciated and will allow this fantastic charity to continue doing such amazing work.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.

Love Zara x

I am very sad to say that Jessica passed away on the 5th February 2013. This is tragic news for her family and friends, but I hope she is now resting peacefully after a long battle with MS. I know she will be greatly missed by all. The target is now set at £1,000, in memory of Jessica. RIP.
