BUPA Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I find myself in the ridiculous situation of feeling obliged to run 13 miles in September despite the fact that (until two months ago) I'd not owned a pair of trainers since 2000. All four of my sisters are doing the Great North Run- and it was getting to the stage where the pointed comments were getting too much. I thought the fact that I'd had a baby in January might excuse me, but then people kept mentioning Paula Radcliffe and then (worse still) sister number 3 gave birth in May and signed up regardless!
I've come to terms with the fact that my fortnightly turn around the block over the past few months isn't really going to do the trick and that I've got some serious training to do between now and September. I was hoping that having chased toddlers around Sainsburys for the last few years might mean my fitness level wouldn't be too shocking, but my 'runs' to date have been painful to say the least... My humble aim is to survive the experience (presumably towards the back of the crowd) but also to earn some good money for this very important charity.
Help the Aged is an international charity fighting to free older people from poverty, neglect and isolation. It aims to improve the lives of older people worldwide by funding both biomedical and social policy research into issues pertinent to them. It provides crucial services where public services fail older people, and makes available products which improve the lives of older people but which are not readly accessible to them. The charity strives to be the foremost authority on ageing, raising the public's awareness of older people, their rights and needs by providing accurate statistics and speaking out on their behalf.
