Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My dad had a heart of gold, so loving and caring.  He was loved and is missed beyond words and measure.

Dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer at the end of 2016.  We were relieved it was diagnosed early and that a treatment plan was put in place.  We had a great Christmas, thinking he would have plenty more to enjoy.  But he didn’t… that was his last one.

Dad was subsequently diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in 2017, a devastating and incurable lung disease with an unknown cause.  IPF kills 5000 people in the UK every year but it doesn’t have a high profile and is poorly understood.  It is under recognised and under resourced.  Life expectancy is often worse than for lung cancer with more than half of the sufferers dying within three years of diagnosis; my dad didn’t even get a year.

September is Pulmonary Fibrosis awareness month and despite having never been a runner, mum and I, along with 30 friends and family are going to do the Great Scottish Run 10K on Sunday 29th September.  I watched my dad suffer and die of his lungs failing so we are going to use our lungs to our max in memory of my beloved dad.

We would be so grateful for any donations to Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis, a charity now very close to my heart.  I hope we can make this a success and do you proud dad!
