Story

Thank you for taking the time to look at my London Marathon 2024 fundraising page and thank you for supporting me with my challenge.

When I was 14 I was shot accidently, which left me blind in one eye and with pellets in my head and next to my other eye so I was incredibly close to being totally blind. I spent weeks in hospital with doctors trying to save me from losing my left eye all together. Eventually they did save my eye but not the sight and that changed my life and left me adapting to life with sight in only one eye. Never before this had I fully appreciated the value of 3D that 2 eyes give you and never before had I fully appreciated the blessing of sight. This is why I am running in aid of RNIB as the Charity I want to support and raise much needed funds.

Running my first marathon at 50 plus is a massive challenge for me. Although I have run in the past, for the last few years this has not been the case so my journey started at 0 miles doing the couch to 5k after being inspired to get back in to running having watched the 2023 London Marathon in April and seeing all the incredible people that run and fundraise.

I am following a running plan that takes me through 5k, 10k, half marathon before moving on to the big one! Integrated with this is core workouts, yoga and interval training. (I will add this to the updates so you can see my plan and my journey towards the London Marathon 2024). Its pretty scary to find out if my body is up to all this but I am determined to give my all.

Every day, 250 people in the UK start losing their sight. Too many still face isolation and depression, unable to achieve their potential in a world that blocks their way. RNIB wont stop until every last psychological and physical barrier has gone for good. With your help, RNIB can be there when people need them most, support independent living, create an inclusive society and prevent avoidable sight loss. Every pound you donate is helping create a future where sight loss is no longer a barrier.£20 could help someone feel more confident about living with sight loss, with personalised support from our expert Sight Loss Advice Service. £47 could help someone feel more positive about the future after losing their sight, through a one-to-one phone or online counselling session. £2,500 could make a new adult book available in our Talking Books library, enabling a person with sight loss to enjoy the latest best seller.

As I progress through the running plan towards the London Marathon I intend to keep this page updated with the good, the bad and the ugly in my running journey.

Thank you again for taking the time to read my story and hearing more about the incredible charity RNIB and all they do to help people.
