Story

Welcome to my London Marathon for Leonard Cheshire fundraising page.

**ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE LEONARD CHESHIRE DISABILITY GLOUCESTERSHIRE HOUSE**

This year I shall be running the world famous Virgin Money London Marathon.

Leonard Cheshire are a charitable group that help look after people with disabilities.Either physical or mental difficulties, Leonard Cheshire are there to offer support, care and assistance in many ways. They have a network of care homes and nursing facilities across the UK. They have a team of care workers that support disabled people adjust and live in their own homes when otherwise they may have no other choice than to live in full time residential care.

We have a member of our family who has been severely affected with arthritis. Her condition has been getting progressively worse over the years and her mobility has fallen sharply. At a very difficult and emotional time, she was forced to move out of the home where she grew up and live with us. As her condition deteriorated and my family were no longer able to provide the increasing levels of round the clock care she needed. My family were put in an impossible situation. She had no choice but to move into a home where she would have a more personalised service and access to facilities more suited to her needs.

More recently, with changes in legislation and an assessment of her condition in relation to her accommodation, she has had to move again to another home. Given the choice, she would much rather have stayed where she was but the powers that be insisted that this would not be possible. She has settled in to her new place now and she still has the option to betaken out for short trips out for the day (or as long as her condition allows)

We can already see the benefit of having the support and care that Leonard Cheshire can offer. It is clear from our experience how organisations like theirs can really help in troubling circumstances. With access to the right help and guidance, families like ours can be given the sound advice and help in time to help everyone adjust to the changing needs thrust upon those with debilitating conditions.

It may be a small helping hand, or suggestions to make adjustments to living arrangements, but sometimes, a point in the right direction will go a long way.

I ask for your help and support in reaching the target of £1800. I do realise in these hard times, cash is in short supply and I’ll do my best to not hassle and badger you all constantly with it. I would, however, appreciate any sponsorship, no matter how big or small. Any contribution made will help me hit this target.

I will of course keep you up to date with our fundraising progress. I have a great many ideas. Similarly, if you have any suggestions, no matter how silly,(and for the amusement of others) please feel free to leave a suggestion here.I promise I will at least consider it.

Every step towards the 26.2 mile finish line is a step I would not be able to make without your support.

I thank you as we make this journey together.
