We fund research into type 1 diabetes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes

Story

We have taken up the challenge to run 10k (if you know us, you will know that is some challenge!) to raise money for research into juvenile diabetes. Last summer Nathalie and Barney's 3 year old daughter Laura was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. She continues to be her lovely self but she now has 4 finger prick blood tests and 3 insulin injections a day to stay alive. It sounds very dramatic but it is the fact of her life, for the rest of her life.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) researches the cause (there is a big increase in under 5s getting it with no prior family connection, as in Laura's case) with the aim to find a cure or an improvement in managing diabetes - less injections, pumps etc. All very important stuff for Laura and the 350,000 children with diabetes in the UK. Advances are made all the time and our greatest wish in the world is for a cure to be found in Lauras lifetime. This is the only positive spin on diabetes and it needs money to happen.

PLEASE, PLEASE sponsor us for this great cause. Don't be shy. £1 or £1,000 or £10,000. Anything would be wonderful. We have started our training and will run 10K on May 31st to show our thanks!

If you would like to donate by cheque and not through this page please make it out to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and send it c/o Nathalie Bristow, 71 Oaklands Grove, London W12 0JE, UK.

ABOUT TYPE 1 DIABETES

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, life threatening condition, which has a life-long impact on those diagnosed with it. It normally strikes children and stays with them for the rest of their lives and reduces life expectancy by about 20 years. They rely on multiple insulin injections or pump infusions every day just to stay alive, until a cure is found. There has been a five fold increase in incidences in under 5's in the last 20 years.
