• On 12th September 2010, I swam 10.5K  (that's 420 lengths of a standard swimming pool) to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
• The swim took 2hours and 5 minutes with the help of the tide.
• The swim was from Totnes to Dittisham down the river dart.
• 200 people entered the event and almost all completed it.
• It was a beautiful sunny day, the water temperature was 14 degrees centigrade.

I reached my 1000 pounds fundraising target whilst the swim was in progress. I am humbled by the generous donations that I have recieved.

• Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases.
• Each week, five babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis. My niece, Lara, is one of them.  It will be her 6th birthday on the day of the swim.  I'm doing this because the research that your donations will pay for could lengthen her life and that of other affected by the disease.

 

 

Cystic Fibrosis affects over 8,500 people in the UK.

• Over two million people in the UK carry the faulty gene that
• causes Cystic Fibrosis - around 1 in 25 of the population.
• If two carriers have a child, the baby has a 1 in 4 chance of having Cystic Fibrosis.
• Cystic Fibrosis affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.
