Story

Thank you for visiting this 1887 fundraising page.

Funds donated to 1887 will be used to help VICTIMS OF WAR in Bosnia-Herzegovina; this will involve various services including a Prosthetic Unit to build and fit artificial limbs.

The Unit will be near Mostar in Bosnia-Hercegovina, 1887 kilometres from Ampleforth.  This unit is being built through the charity Miracles [Littelhampton, West Sussex - Registered Charity Number 1041449] and this work is being organised by an Old Amplefordian, Matthew Procter MBE (W80).  Matthew has devoted the past dozen years to working with victims of war and poverty in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and we are trying to help him a little. Partly through the help of those who have sponsored 1887, Matthew Procter tells us that the foundations of the Unit can be started on 10 May 2007.

Matthew has helped in this area since 1993, assisting victims and refugees from the war of the mid-1990s. There are many hidden mines, perhaps 30,000, and therefore many are losing limbs. Matthew has taken some to the USA to get artificial limbs. Now his aim is to build a Unit to fit limbs and help victims of war.  He has a site 12 kilometres from Mostar, he has architects plans and he has the permission of the local authorities.

Even now that 1887 has happenned, you are invited to sponsor the students at Ampleforth - their aim was to run in total the distance to Mostar, 1887 kilometres. This run took place in fine weather in the Valley at Ampleforth on Sunday 11 March 2007.   A complete calculation of the distance run has still to be completed, but it is thought something like this distance may have been run.

Donating through 1887 is simple, fast and secure, really secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor: through 1887, Face-Faw at Ampleforth Abbey will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. The funds will all go to help Matthew Procter and the charity Miracles.

On 26 October 2006 a group of a few Amplefordians visited the site under a mountain 12 kilometres out of Mostar - the photograph shows them there. P
lease sponsor 1887.

Many thanks for your support for 1887.
