Story

On 6-8 July 2012, 10 intrepid adventurers from the Energy & Utility Skills (EU Skills) Group will be taking on their biggest challenge yet – walking an epic 35 miles over three days as they hike 20 Peaks of the Lake District!

The team have been training hard since February, giving up relaxing weekends to hike in the rain, snow, fog and gale force winds! The Lake District 20 Peaks Challenge is no mean feat and is a bespoke challenge designed by the team. Just to give you some idea of what is involved in the challenge - the first day will involve the team hiking eight peaks and a total of 13.9 miles including Raise, Whiteside, Lower Man, Helvellyn, Nethermost Pike, High Crag Dollywagon Pike and Fairfield – and that’s just the first day!

Earlier this year, EU Skills’ employee representative group, M.a.D (Making a Difference) Matters launched M.a.D 2012, a dedicated Year of Fundraising. Fundraising started in January and will run through until December this year with staff coordinating and organising a range of charity events including dress down days, half marathons, swimathons and a Jubilee themed afternoon tea – to mention just a few! We have set ourselves an ambitious target of raising £10,000 by the end of the year and so far staff have raised over £4,000 for a variety of worthy causes including Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Stroke Association.

To support M.a.D 2012 and boost the fundraising total, the Lake District 20 Peaks Challenge team will be raising money in aid of the Carers Trust (previously known as The Princess Royal Trust for Carers). So please dig deep by sponsoring the team at www.justgiving.com/20peakschallenge

Thank you for your support!
