My name is Ashley Griffiths, I run the 22 stone runner blog. Over the next two years I aim to lose 8 stone by running. Part of this process means I will be entering a lot of races ranging from 5km fun-runs through to full blown marathons. Since most people expect you to do runs for sponsorship I wanted to take this opportunity to raise money for a cause that is near and dear to my heart.
My brother has twin sons aged 4 years old. One of them (pictured left) is severely autistic. I have seen how difficult it is for both of his parents to cope and also how hard it is on his twin brother who doesn't really understand why his brother doesn't speak or act like everybody else. I have also seen the work that health workers and charities do to support them and the local centres for autistic children.
My chosen charity is Autistica (formerly Autism Speaks) who conduct biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cures for autistic spectrum disorders.
