Bupa Great North Run 2011 · 18 September 2011 ·

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

With John working for GOSH, we thought it was time for the family to do a running event for them, to support them in all the fantastic work they do, not just for oncology patients but for so many different specialties.

Following on from Josie's success at climbing Kilimanjaro for Practical Action, she wanted a new challenge. Alison is coming back from injury after having to pull out of this year's London Marathon and both of us have never done the Great North Run, 13.2 miles of challenge!!

Please support us and raise money for Great Ormond Street as it helps the brave children and families every day.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you

Alison and Josie

UPDATE: We had a great time on Sunday, although the race seems almost 100% uphill!! We arrived at the start at 9.45am, to join the other 54,000 runners taking part. The atmosphere was excellent with loud music, ranging from an emotional Abide with Me, to Haway Man! ( only understandable to Geordies).

We got going about 15 mins after the official start due to the large numbers of people crossing the start line, and the first mile down to the Tyne Bridge was all downhill. Then uphill for ever more! It was a variable day weather-wise with bright sunshine at the start and showers later but welcome to us hot runners!

Josie and I stayed together for the first 3 miles, but then I let her go on ahead as she is faster than me. But great camaraderie with the other runners around me , as we all kept more or less together the whole way.Wonderful to see the sea just before mile 12, and know you are nearly there!

The lovely supporters of GOSHCC were at the finish with sandwiches and a CUP OF TEA!! this is my sort of charity! Not to mention cheering us around at mile 8. Thank you to everybody who has sponsored us. It will make a big difference to the sick children who use GOSH and their families.

Josie finished in 2:33, me in 2:47.

Alisonx
