Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

EDGE Security Services Ltd response Officers Peter & Paul Morrison (35 & 38 yrs) both ex-Royal Marines, brothers and fathers of two, are running in support of Help for Heroes on Monday 21st December 2009.

The lads have friends and ex colleagues who have been injured in the Afghanistan Campaign, Peter has seen first hand on a visit to Selly Oak Hospital, his friend who was seriously injured by a land mine.  Selly Oak Hospital treats troops directly from the frontline. The repair and repatriation process starts with surgery, followed by time at Headley Court’s rehabilitation unit, to get these men and women’s lives back on track.  "We have seen how monies raised play a vital part in supporting these injured service men and women".

It is Edge Security’s intention to raise funds for Help for Heroes www.helpforheroes.org.uk The charity also supports other great causes such as Combat Stress.  Peter & Paul know that people are thinking about our forces, our brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, mums, dads and our friends as we approach Christmas and are keen to acknowledge their sacrifice, commitment and dedication on behalf of our country by undertaking this run.

The Macclesfield brothers will be running 31 miles (50 km) based on the Royal Marines infamous 30 Miler final commando test. The run will incorporate over 2/3rds of the Gritstone Trail, a challenging local route streching from Disley to Kidsgrove with some fine ridge paths and stunning views over the Cheshire plain. The boys will not be carrying over 30 lbs of military equipment as the marines do, they will instead be carrying a safety rucksack for emergency use as well as food and water to keep them going. The lads will be carrying a union jack flag with them across the 31 mile route to represent our brave forces.  They are running the one extra mile as a gesture of going the extra mile just like our forces do on a daily basis.

Around the 25 mile mark the boys will leave the Gritstone Trail and head directly for Macclesfield Town Hall. At the Town Hall there will be a reception party to meet the lads and welcome them across the finish line. There will also be Help for Heroes collection buckets and other related items for people to purchase and show their support.

We need to and will continue to keep our servicemen and women in our thoughts, prayers and actions recognising that they need our continued help and support.
