Story
Earlier this year, a team from Spirit Aerosystems contacted GE Caledonian and Goodrich, with a charity idea. They challenged us to a race, climbing the highest mountain in Scotland, England and Wales in one continuous push. The 3 Companies, 3 Peaks, 3 Charities event was born.
On 25th June 2010, each company will field a team of 4 runners and a driver, starting in Fort William, at the foot of Ben Nevis. All 4 runners must reach the summit (take a photo of the team holding a flag), and then descent to the finish line. They will then jump in the car and head south to the Lake District. The objective will be to climb Scafel Pike, which is the highest mountain in England. This will be particularly challenging since it will be a night-time ascent.
The final leg will take the teams into North Wales, climbing Snowdon, and finishing in the village of Llanberis. The challenge must be completed in 24hrs, however the race only takes the accumulation of the three mountain times (so fitness cannot be compensated by Jenson Button driving skills!)
Through the weekly brief, Caledonian invited all employees to submit recommendations for a Charity. Spirit and Goodrich did the same. The winner for Caledonian was Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Our team consists of Ian Caird, Scott Kerr, Eammon Boyle, Alan Kelly and Richard Stevenson (driver).
We all really appreciate your support. Cheers.
