Story

Hi, thanks for having a look at our page.

You may be surprised that such diverse specimens are to attempt such a challenging feat - so are we! The most popular theory from our friends is that we are in the midst of some type of mid-life crisis so I suppose it's better than heading off to Pamplona for the bull run!!

On 21st July, we will be climbing the 3 highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell) and Wales (Snowdon) in 24 hours. Over 3,000m, 26 miles, 6 months training, a fortune on expensive gear and plenty of blisters .

We start from Fort William in the evening for our first climb, Ben Nevis, the highest of the peaks and then drive south to the Lake District to Scafell. A lot of this hike will be done in the dark and we should have completed the first 2 peaks by early morning on the 22nd July. Then it's a matter of driving to North Wales and finishing the challenge by climbing Mount Snowdon. Easy? Nope!!!

Why are we doing this? We are raising money for the refurbishment of the Mountbatten Ward, which is the Paediatric Liver Unit in Kings College Hospital, London. This unit is the largest of 3 specialist paediatric liver units in the UK and provides treatment to children from all over the UK and Ireland. Not so long ago 6 out of 10 children with liver disease died and with some diseases the mortality rate was 100%. Today the survival rate is 96% and continuing to improve. BUT, the Mountbatten Ward is in urgent need of modernisation.

The unit is in the process of trying to raise £1.8m to complete a full refurbishment. They have managed to secure £1.0m from central funding and are seeking to raise the balance from other fundraising events. GBP 25,000 to 30,000 will provide the full refurbishment of a counselling room for family and friends of the children in the care of Kings and also provide for a fully kitted out play area which will be fantastic given that many children are long term patients. We want you to help us raise this money. Please spend a few minutes reading more about this appeal at http://www.valuebahn.com/starfish.ppt and once you have done that, dig deep!!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The Starfish appeal will receive your money directly and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Sponsor us now! And many thanks for your support.
