Story

The deed has been done - Team 3Peaks4Starfish successfully completed the gruelling 24Hour National Three Peaks Challenge.

All seven members of the team successfully completed the Challenge within the 24 Hours - most of us a lot worse for the wear.

A special thanks to team Ferrari (Al and Jules) - our dedicated drivers - who did us proud too.

Pictures to be posted soon.

The Challenge
The challenge is to climb and descend the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon respectively) totalling approx 11000 feet. This involves about 24 miles of steep hill walking and over 500 miles of driving in the 24 hours allowed.

The Charity
Starfish was formed by a group of friends in 2001, who wanted to make a personal difference in the battle against HIV/AIDS in South Africa.

It’s a pandemic of devastating proportions – in just four years time, it’s estimated that over 3 million children will be orphaned or made vulnerable as a result of AIDS.

The number of children affected is staggering but individuals really can make a difference, by using their skills, time and resources to reach out to support each child one at a time!

In the last five years, Starfish has made a significant impact in 65 communities across 8 out of 9 provinces, working through 37 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community-based organisations (CBOs). 18,378 children are currently benefiting from the unique Starfish model of care, with an additional 6,800 people receiving food parcels each month.

Make a very real difference…

The English pound goes a very long way against the South African Rand and a donation, no matter how small, can make a difference to a child’s life –  every single penny counts!

£3          Food for a child for a month

£9          Food for an entire family for a month

£20        An emergency medical pack for a caregiver

£100      Equipment for a crèche for 50 children

£500      Educational support for 4 children for a year (school fees, uniform, books)

£1,000  Emergency food for 100 families in crisis to support them for a month.

***Raffle***

Knomo (see www.knomo.com) has kindly agreed to sponsor a leather bag worth up to £200 for the fundraising for our challenge. Each donation will receive a ticket in the raffle for the knomo bag. The raffle will take place after the challenge.

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. So, whether you wish to sponsor us because of this very worthy cause, or simply because you like the idea of us having to suffer, please do dig deep and sponsor our team online! Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.

It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Starfish will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Thanks in advance for your support, and we will of course keep people up-to-date on how we have progressed.
