48 Hours, 7 Stanes, 4 Bikes · 6 October 2001

We collect used bicycles in the UK and we ship them, in containers, to people who need them in Africa. Some people living in rural African communities walk miles everyday to reach water, school, work or healthcare. Bikes are a sustainable mode of transport and help change lives for many families.

Story

So.....the "grand plan" is this.....On the weekend of the 12th & 13th of October, John Hartley, Robbie Richmond and Andrew Young are going to start their own wee epic adventure.  The "wee" adventure consists of riding all of the 7 Stane's red routes on mountain bikes and riding the roads in between them on road bikes.Total mileage will be 170 road miles and 87 trail miles....

We will start at 6am on the Saturday morning and ride Glentress, Innerleithen, Newcastleton and lastly Ae and finish off on Saurday in Dumfries at who knows what time, quick snooze and up on the Sunday to tackle Mabie, Dalbeattie and finally Kirroughtree. After this we will all try to consume our own body weight in food!

Please feel free to get in touch if you fancy coming along and joining us at some point. Dont expect race pace and do bring cakes.

The charity we are doing this for is called Re~cycle. "Re~Cycle is a UK registered charity committed to improving life prospects through the provision of cheap, sustainable transport in Africa. We currently work in Ghana, Namibia, South Africa, Malawi, Zambia and Kenya. We believe that bicycles offer people a route out of poverty and a means to improve their lives, giving them opportunities to travel to work and school. They can also be adapted to carry goods and passengers giving small scale farmers and traders the opportunity to reach customers further afield or take more produce to market.  They are also an invaluable resource for traveling health workers coping with the AIDS epidemic."

So please dig deep and donate now and help get bums on bikes

Thank you

John, Robbie and Andrew
