857 NAS is currently conducting its first Operational Tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Based in Camp Bastion, Helmand Province we decided that we should use our spare time and our enthusiasm to get fit to raise money for Help For Heroes. This is a cause which we can closely identify with, as we are living and working alongside some of the bravest men and women on the planet who day in, day out are putting themselves at risk for their country and to help the Afghan people to have a brighter future.

Our plan is to cumulatively run the distance between Camp Bastion and our home base, RNAS Culdrose, in Cornwall before the end of our time in theatre and as we progress we may revise our target to a greater distance.

Please help us to show our respect for the courage of the British Servicemen and women, who continually face the dangers of Helmand Province whilst patrolling, by sponsoring our efforts for a charity which is doing so much towards helping those affected by this conflict.

22 Dec 09 - We have now run over 6000km.  Individuals have gone mad!  We are planning to run various distances on New Years Day.  Squadron members can opt for 10km, 1/2 marathon or a full marathon.  Nearly all aircrew are running and those that aren't will be handing out jelly babies! We'd like to add a further thank you to those who have been so generous with their donations and for your kind messages of support!
