Story

Massive Thanks to all the Teachers from St Peters School it means alot that you are still looking out for me :)

My Story

On the 9th of April 2011 my very healthy 18 month old son Lewis was having a day out in Great Yarmouth with his nanny and grandad when suddenly and so unexpectedly he started having a fit, which went on for 30 min before they could get an ambulance to him. He was then given midazalom to bring him out of it which it did but unfortunately he then slipped in and out of fits for a further 50 min (and knowing the longer fits go on for the more chance of causing damage to the brain, this was all absoloutly heartbreaking to hear over the phone ) Because of this the medics decided to intubate him to keep him from slipping in and out of fits. During all of this the air ambulance arrived all the way from norwich and it was decided that instead of sending him to the nearest hospital he would be flown to Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge where they were more specialised to deal with lewis's condition, even though it would mean they would have to go off and refuel first. This was also a great relief for us as it meant that because we live close to cambridge we could be waiting at the hospital when Lewis arrived rather then having to face a 2 and a half hour drive to the hospital in Great Yarmouth before we could see him. As I'm sure you can imagine it would of been unbearable (I can remember thinking I just need to be with him and I couldnt bare the fact that I wasn't with him while he was going through what he went through). On arriving at the hospital the air ambulance crew came to talk to us to tell us exactly what had happened and how they were treating him.lewis recieved expert treatment from all the staff at the hospital from the intensive care ward right through to the recovery ward.the day after it happened a member of the air ambulance crew rang the hospital to check up on how lewis was getting on which was just another display of how much they cared for lewis.

Thanks to the decisions that the air ambulance & medics made Lewis was discharged from hospital 3 days later, and is back at home, a healthy, happy boy If it wasnt for them I doubt Lewis would have escaped his ordeal with no long term damage so I owe them everything!

An extra special thanks to all the medical staff and especially the air ambulance crew that treated Lewis comes from his grandparents who were with him at the time. The air ambulance crew kept them as calm as they could with the situaltion. They are so thankful for everything that was done for them. they said they couldn't fault any of the decisions that were made or the way Lewis was looked after, which as a parent that couldnt be there is all i could ask for.

If the air ambulance wasnt around my story could of ended so differently, so please sponser what you can and help keep the air ambulance aiding many other familys....

My First fundraising event was the pathfinder march on the 25th june 2011 which is a 46 mile walk in Under 20hours starting at 04.00am, I Compleated the course in 13hours 50 min. It was the toughest thing i have ever done but i raised £700.

My Second Event Was The London Marathon. it was such a crazy experiance and one i will never forget. it was very very tough but with the help of my family and friends and all of ur donations i mananged to finish in 5hrs 2 min :)

For the second ear in a row i participated in the pathfinder march (46 mile walk) but this time i brough along some friends to help me raise money. #mce_temp_url# unfortunatly a few friends dropped out to this extreame challenge but with a massive team effort 3 of us finished after nearly 19hours walking
