ARCH TO ARC 24

This is the quest of 10 slightly crazy friends from Hadliegh Cycling Club in Suffolk. The challenge is to cycle from Marble Arch in London to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris in 24 hours - @265miles (supposedly the long way), also with the aim that the whole team make the finish in the time.

The plan is to leave Marble Arch at 8:30pm BST and arrive at the Arc de Triomphe before 8:30pm BST. The route will see the riders travel London - Sittingbourne -Dover - Ferry to Calais - Flechin, Doullens - Crevecoeur le Grand - Pontoise and finally a ride down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées to the Arc De Triomphe in Paris.

THE BRENDAN OAKES TRUST

Brendan Oakes was a 15 year old, young man that won his first battle against cancer in 2003 and then unfortunately lost the second in 2005.

Brendan battled with cancer for 3 years, and during that time he was able to take part in and enjoy many different and varied activities that enriched his short experience of life. The Brendan Oakes Trust was set up at his request by his parents. He spoke before his death of helping other teenagers, in a similar situation to himself, to experience adventurous and exciting activities.

The Brendan Oakes Trust looks to help and fund activities, make a wish days and experiences to other children suffering from cancer to enrich both their lives and their families. As a Trust they are committed to helping teenagers with cancer to explore the boundaries of their abilities and to experience events that help to enrich their lives.

The Brendan Oakes Trust allows local children's wishes to be met in the child’s timescales, when working with children suffering from cancer often time is the issue. The support and wishes that the Brendan Oakes Trust have given allows children to return home, to live that dream and more commonly be able to stay in touch with friends and family through supplying tablet computers when they are in hospital which sees them spend prolonged periods in isolation.


WHAT WE THEY PLAN TO DO WITH YOUR DONATION

The Brendan Oakes Trust work closely with both Addenbrookes and Ipswich Hospital. After recent feedback from the young people, they have commented that the ward is "dull, dark and dated". Therefore we aim to support them to make the ward a little bit more appropriate and in their own words "a bit more funky". Therefore your money will go towards transforming the ward through redecoration,  creating a teenage appropriate environment with may see a new TV, ipod docking station and to improving the basic's of even teenage duvet covers, and soft furnishing.

This is not only transforming the ward for the current patients but also for future patients . These are the little things in life that we expect our own children to have access to at home, so please help us provide this for young people going through treatment and help make the ward that little more homely and comfortable for them.
