The Automobile Association's Historical Vehicle Challenge

                        John o'Groats to Land's End

                                  24 - 29 June 2006

The challenge:

A group of AA patrols and employees drove nine historical AA patrol vehicles from John o'Groats to Land's End to raise money for GOSH. The vehicles came from every decade from the 1950s onwards, and all of them made it all the way!

Some of the vehicles made stops at AA Call Centres in Newcastle, Cheadle and Oldbury (Birmingham) and at Cribbs Causeway Shopping Centre in Bristol.

The Vehicles included:

1951
Land Rover
1959 BSA M21 Sidecar unit
1964 Mini van
1970 Morris Minor
1977 Triumph Tiger
1978 Ford Escort

They covered up to 250 miles each day and averaged a speed of only 30mph.

Why?

Three of the AA patrols involved have a personal interest in the challenge, as they have young children who have suffered from serious illness or injury requiring specialist care.  We wanted to do something to help other children who find themselves in need of similar care.
