Hello and welcome to the page where you can sponsor me and feel all warm and squishy knowing you have helped The Martlets Hospice care for their patients and support families. I've done all the hard work, you just need to hand over the cash please!
The story so far...
I've done it! I ran, walked and shuffled through 26.2miles in 5hrs, 12mins and 26 secs. I overtook wombles, a storm tropper, a giraffe and some donkeys. I started right at the back and spent the whole race over taking people. It made me feel superfast!
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me over the past few months. Its been a great challenge and one I hope to repeat next year. I am most definitely a runner. No point trying to deny it. I have sore knees and couldn't get out of bed on Monday but have bounced back and aside from walking verrrrry slowly I'm back to normal. I only trained 2-3 days a week and only for 4 months, with no running beforehand. Next year I reckon I can get my time down by at least 45mins. And hopefully raise some more moola for charity!
This year I chose to run for The Martlets Hospice in Brighton. A friend of a friend works there and I think that the service they provide is amazing. Here is some more info:
"We provide end of life care services to adults with life limiting illness including cancer. Our facilities include an 18 bed InPatient Unit, Day Hospice and Martlets at Home Service. Practical and emotional support is also offered to the families and carers of our patients including helping them through bereavement. Our main aim is to maximise the quality of life for our patients and we strive to support patient choice, dignity and independence in all we do. We are a registered charity and all our services are provided free of charge. It costs over £4 million every year to run the Hospice and local community support is essential to our survival."
A member of my own family suffers from debilitating illness and one day a place like the Martlets may well help my own family. No UK hospice is government funded and yet the services they all provide are invaluable to the families they help and support. Knowing I am helping makes the muscle ache worth it!
