Story
Breast cancer accounts for 33% of all cancers in Egyptian women. More Egyptian women die from breast cancer than in car accidents. Every year more than 18,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Egypt and those are the ones who went to their doctor; the large majority die without being diagnosed and keep their physical symptoms secret due to lack of knowledge about the disease and social fears.
Those who can access the treatment need to travel to Cairo to get it. Egypt is a large country so there is a lot of travelling involved, especially from the more rural locations. I am paying tribute to the brave women who have made that journey to access their treatment and aftercare. I have also recently joined ‘Just Because’ as one of the trustees so it seems like a fitting start to my role. I have been fortunate to visit Egypt regularly in the last few years and I have always loved the sense of hope, the hospitality and the cultural insights that have always been extended to me. I want to give something back to the women of Egypt. I plan continue to walk / cycle 450 miles over a period of time. In July last year I completed 100 miles in just under 14 days and enjoyed it so much that I want to continue. I get healthier and fitter and hopefully the Charity will benefit from the kind donations made by friends and fellow dancers. As I work full-time I need to break it down into chunks so I will be hitting the gym almost every day to complete a minimum of 5 miles until I have reached my goal.
I am aiming to reach my goal of £1000 which will help three women with their aftercare so if you can help, I would be really grateful as would the women who receive the care, courtesy of ‘Just Because’ and the Breast Cancer Foundation Egypt.
Many thanks
