Story

Hey everyone,

I hope you are all well,

After being a complete slob in Perth for 5 months, I'm being pro active this year. In July, me and some of my family are doing the Three Peaks Challenge in Yorkshire. The aim is to raise money for MyelomaUK. In July 2009 my auntie was diagnosed with Smouldering Myeloma. The facts are that there isn't a cure yet.

Smouldering Myeloma is the asymptomatic form of Myeloma; a type of bone marrow cancer arising from plasma cells which are normally found in bone marrow. It's a rare cancer affectly 1% of cancer patients and once it's diagnosed, life expectancy is only 2-5 years. It's horribly unfair; she's only 35 and she has two really young kids and she's the nicest person you'll ever meet.

I'm doing the sponsored walk in July; scaling the Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough peaks (they're over 700m in height, blady hell!) and walking a total distance of 26 miles in less than 12 hours.

I'd really appreciate any kind of sponsorship, every little counts :)

If you want to find out more about Debs, http://www.justgiving.com/debgascoyne and read more about her story.

Aim is to:

1. To provide information and support to individuals like myself who have been diagnosed.

2. To promote awareness of Myeloma in order that symptoms are recognised and treated early.

3. To fund crucial research to try to increase the life expectancy after diagnosis and/or find a cure for this currently uncurable disease.

Thanks everyone :)
