If I may take a moment to thank you for your words of support, your text messages in the middle of the night [!!], the many charitable donations to Marie Curie Cancer Care, for your positive attitude towards my endeavors in New York and how you have all helped me in so many ways.

 

As many of you will know, I achieved what for me was an astonishing time of 3:46:57 in the New York Marathon, my first attempt at such a distance having only taken up running this year specifically for this fundraising challenge. The time put me in 9852 place from over 43,000 finishers and secured a tiny line in the published table in the New York Times yesterday!

 

For anyone who has run a marathon, or indeed run in New York, you will know what a thoroughly epic journey of emotions the whole thing is. I was told it is estimated that around 2 million screaming people line the streets of New York on Marathon day and I have to say that for anyone wanting a lift in their life, or the experience of a lifetime this is definitely the event that should be handed out on prescription.

 

One fascinating aspect of the Marathon was the computerized chip system which fed live split times for every runner right across the race directly onto the Web. It is an incredible motivator knowing that friends and family are tracking your every success and failure over the course of 26.2 miles from 3000 miles away. Without a doubt this drove me on and aided my finishing time - in fact on getting back to the hotel after the race there were 24 text messages from people who all seemed to know my exact time – something that I actually didn’t know myself.

 

Now the all important piece. Your fabulous generosity has raised over £6,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and with a few pledges still to come I hope to see this figure rise some more. Absolutely amazing; your support has been fantastic.
