I will be participting in the Asics British 10k London Run to raise money for the British Limbless Ex-service Men Association (BLESMA). BLESMA is a charity that directly supports all our service men and women who lose limbs, the use of limbs or eyes or the sight of an eye in the service of our country. Having served in the Army myself, I have been oppourtuned to see first-hand how hard these courageous men and women work.

Defence spending is at its lowest since the 1930's, leaving the Armed Forces chronically under-funded. The Army, Navy and Airforce are now over-stretched, yet the level of operations is greater than at any time since the Korean war. The men and women of our Armed Forces bear the cost of these shortages by paying with their own lives.

On the 11 of July, when I take part in the run, I will be remembering current serving men and women of the Armed Forces, soldiers of the 16 Air Assault Brigade and 13 Air Assault Regiment with whom I am very proud to have served, and comrades who lost their lives during Op-Herrick 4 and Op-Herrick 8 (Afghanistan).
