Aileen & Bob are taking part in the The Who Cares? Trust - Borders Marauders bike ride on 24/06/2010 to raise money for The Who Cares? Trust and we'd really appreciate your support. We are planning to cycle 220 miles over some pretty hilly terrain which will take us from Newcastle to Carlisle and back again.

Each year around 6,000 children, usually through no fault of their own, are taken into care across the UK. There are currently 74,000 children in care. Statistics show that, year in year out, wherever and whenever a child is taken into care, this traumatic event may be one of the worst possible things that could happen to a child.
• 40% of those leaving care aged 16+ have no qualifications, compared with 4% of all children. Just 6% have five GCSEs graded A - C • Up to 50% of those leaving care are unemployed • 33% of the young homeless were brought up in care
