Story

This JustGiving page is dedicated to the Community First Responder Scheme in Aldermaston.  It is a new scheme, having started in August 2013, and urgently needs funds to maintain equipment and telecommunications.  Inga & Richard Pioro coordinate the scheme and are looking for your help by way of donations and volunteers.

Community Responders are volunteers carrying out life saving work on a daily basis across the county of Berkshire. We respond to emergency situations on behalf of the Ambulance Service to offer immediate first aid and life support before the arrival of an Ambulance resource. There is a vital need for Community Responders in order to both save lives and to provide support and reassurance to patients in the event of an emergency.

Community Responders operate within a small radius, usually a village or a small town and are therefore at the scene of an emergency within 5-8 minutes. These first eight minutes are vital for patients suffering from cardiac arrest and other life threatening incidents e.g. respiratory arrest and unconsciousness. Research from the British Heart Foundation has shown that when a patient is suffering from a cardiac arrest their chance of survival decreases by 13% for every minute that passes without treatment from an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Community Responders receive full training from the South Central Ambulance Service in the use of an AED and other basic life support techniques and a make a real and tangible contribution to the provision of high quality pre-hospital care.

As a charity we rely heavily on donations from a wide variety of sources to enable us to operate, which is why we are so grateful for donations.

Below are some of the ways in which your support will help:-

£20 – Will buy a Pair of Electrode Pads for the AED

£30 – Will buy a High Visibility Jacket to ensure the safety of the Community Responder

£110 – Will buy a spare battery for the AED

£350 – Will buy an AED training package including manikin and training AED

£1,400 – Will buy a new AED

We also need donations to help us purchase public relations equipment to recruit more responders and raise awareness of our work in the community.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Thank you for your interest.
