Story
Those of you who know me well probably appreciate that I am not normally prone to impulsive decisions. However, whilst in the pub the night before my recent holiday I agreed (against my better judgement and without my wife’s knowledge) to join a group of people taking part in Penguathlon 2013, an upcoming event to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research. In previous years this has involved certain individuals undertaking the Great North Run (or other similar event) dressed in a penguin outfit, however, this year to up the ante the main protagonists have decided that the event should be expanded as follows:
Saturday 14 September – Cycle 106 miles from Leeds to Newcastle dressed in special penguin lycra.
Sunday 15 September – Run the Great North Run dressed in penguin suits.
Monday 16 September – Cycle 106 miles from Newcastle back to Leeds dressed in special penguin lycra.
Due to my late entry not to mention an overall lack of fitness/stamina I shall not be partaking in the run (waddle) but shall instead be focusing my efforts on completing the bike rides from Leeds to Newcastle on the Saturday and back on the Monday, which in themselves are no mean feat. This being the case I am politely appealing to anyone who considers it appropriate to make a donation in support of our chosen charity.
Yorkshire Cancer Research is in my opinion a very worthy cause and one that holds great personal significance for me so any donations will be received with much gratitude. That said we have a tough target to try and hit so feel free to dig deep as deep as you can.
