Fundraising for Islamic Relief
Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. I'm raising money for Chechnya by running in the London Marathon 2007.
The conflict between the Russian Federation and Chechnya has claimed over 100,000 lives, and left towns and cities in ruins. More than 350,000 people fled the country. This means at least half of Chechnya's pre-war population of 1 million people is now displaced or dead.
Unemployment in Chechnya runs as high as 85%, and the vast majority of the population live below the poverty line.
Up to 84 percent of children in the Chechen Republic have health problems.
There are an estimated 500,000 landmines in Chechnya, and up to 10,000 mine victims.
Security is still a major concern - around 3,000 people have disappeared in Chechnya to date.
Chechnya is Islamic Relief’s least donated to cause, so please please be generous!!

About Islamic Relief
Founded over 20 years ago Islamic Relief (IR) is one of the largest charities in the UK working with some of the poorest people around the world. With the help of donors and volunteers IR has established relief and development projects all over the world regardless of race, religion or gender.
IR was one of the first British aid agencies to help the Chechens, and has been working in the Northern Caucasus since 1995. IR provides food, clean water, shelter and primary medical care, helping people affected by the ongoing conflict.
In Ingushetia IR now works in villages across the Nazran region. In Chechnya IR currently works in and around Grozny.
IR is a member of the DEC (www.dec.org.uk), IR receive funding from DFID (www.dfid.gov.uk) OCHA (ochaonline.un.org) ECHO (ec.europa.eu) and is a signatory to the code of conduct for the Red Cross and Red Crescent movements (www.ifrc.org).
