Story
Having lost my Aunt in August 2010 to cancer, I realise how important Marie Curie's help could have been to her family in the last few weeks of her life. Losing my Mum 3 months later to a heart attack has made me think of how suddenly things in life can just come to an end. It is important to me to thank those people who dedicate so much of themselves when caring for people who are ill.
So...taking a bit of my Mums spirit and her famous words of comfort in my ear, ie: "Bad things happen darling, life goes on", I have decided on a new challenge for myself. But I need you to make it happen!!!.
This September, I will be embarking on a 9 day trek of the Great Wall of China with the aim of raising money for Marie Curie. I will be camping at various places with my team of 40+ fundraisers including one of my best friends Jo, whose Mum was cleared of breast cancer just a few of months ago.
I should say, I am only going to be walking about 100 miles of it, to cover the full 5,500 miles would be a significant achievement! I will be covering about 20km a day, which is 6-8 hours of walking a day up some very steep hills, steps, valleys, with some very 'scary' looking suspension bridges to cross.
Did you know? - Research commissioned by Marie Curie Cancer Care shows that 65 per cent of people would choose to die at home. In reality, only 25 per cent achieve this!
Did you know? - Marie Curie has 2,000 nurses in th UK. In 2010 they worked 1,200,000 hours caring for terminally ill patients.!
Did you know? - £20 can provide 1 hr of nursing care!
Did you know? - Marie Curie needs £9,212 every hour of every day to carry on their work!
